Most of you will read this post and think that it has nothing to do with Civil 3D. Here’s my teaser - wait for the bottom of the post.
Now, at one time or another, some of you may have seen a drawing come out of your plotter with this nasty watermark along the edges that talk about the drawing being created with an educational version of the software. This is bad - if we send this out to clients or other engineering firms, they’re going to know that we’ve been doing less-than-ethical things with our software. However, you may be thinking “How did that get there? We don’t even OWN an educational copy of the software!” How do you get rid of the stamp?

So it is friday nite, I have managed to get an early start on the cold and flu season. So I am at home resting, so blog I will. Last time we looked at attaching our labels to the bottom top and middle of our structures. That gets us part of the way there, but many of you want some other options, like having the labels all stretch to a fixed elevation.

We have been getting some emails about feeds since we did the migration. Blogger used to publish xml files for us. Wordpress works a little differently, the feeds get generated on the fly when you goto their addresses. Which are www.civil3d.com/rss and www.civil3d.com/atom. You can also find them on the bottom right hand side under the meta heading. Hope this helps sort some confusion.

Your Pipe Network quick tip for the day. Using the default Part Catalog in
C3D, the built-in material in the Ductile Iron Pipe Part Family is actually listed as Reinforced Concrete. This will show its head when you go to label a pipe with the material as part of the label. Be sure to modify this before adding sizes or you will have to modify each pipe after the fact.

So I thought I might explain a little more in depth the features available here and provide some examples.

I was messing around on the Civil 3D Community Site and noticed there was a spot for a portfolio. It seemed like a good idea, so I collected a bunch of screen shots from some projects that I have personally worked on over the past 8 or so months. Read the rest of this entry »

Today, I was presented with an issue that a user was having regarding points. After some head scratching, head banging, gnashing of teeth, strong cursing, and general grumpiness, I finally contacted Autodesk about it. Come to find out, it’s a known bug, but one that can definitely be avoided. Interested in finding the workaround? Read the rest of this entry »
