A Blatant Abuse of Power

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 10th October 2006

It’s my site, so sometimes I get to do what I want and tell the other bloggers to just hold off. This is one of those times.

Many of you who know me personally know that my daughter Carson has a severe dairy allergy. No milk, no cheese, no whitebread with milk as an ingredient, none of it. We travel with an epi-pen in case of a reaction, and we only get pizza when it’s a date night and the kids are asleep.

Scientists estimate some 12 million Americans have a true food allergy. Many children do, and many outgrow it, but in the meantime, there lives are less carefree than they should be. It’s such an issue that some of the cooking shows now even have allergen free shows. In a couple of weeks, my wife is participating in the Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Toward A Cure event being held in Plano, Texas. This walk raises money and awareness for food allergy awareness and research.

If you can, please support this great cause and sponsor my wife’s walk by visiting her online sponsorship page. She would appreciate it, I would appreciate it, and my daughter would appreciate it.

Thanks for letting me steal your time, and for visiting civil3d.com. We’ll return to normal business tomorrow.

You Wanna Piece of Me? Download It.

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 10th October 2006

To make them easier to find, I’ve added a link to all of the posts with Downloads under the Of Note section at right. We’re in the process of modifying download links so that they’re only visible to registered members. You’ll be able to see and read posts, but the links will at least be sort of hidden. This is a minor change from the current format where posts were invisible, I hope you’ll find it easier to use.

Also, we’ve got our first contributor masthead image rolling through, but I’m looking for more. Show us what you’re doing with C3D!

And thank goodness Dana’s back, the rest of us have been slacking in our post frequency! That should step up soon, I see a ton of drafts in the pipeline….

Labeling your Structure to Structure Design

Posted by Dana Breig Probert, EIT on 10th October 2006

There are a few tricks for labeling your pipe lengths from structure to structure, but no really good ways to get that structure to structure slope and invert label to match your exact design intentions.

Here is something I came up with that still needs a little bit of babysitting, but isn’t too bad.
