Change Batches of Pipe Network Label Styles and Override Text

Posted by Dana Breig Probert, EIT on 13th April 2007

I signed up for a free trial of www.screencast.com so I recorded this very short screencast to test the site.  There is no sound in this recording.

I want to test the sharing site and see if it is something I can use to share recordings with clients, blog readers and more.  Let me know how it works for you and what you think.

The recording will show you how Civil 3D 2008 takes advantage of the AutoCAD properties box.  I show how you can select multiple structure labels and change their label style all at once.  Note some of the other things shown in the properties box- very cool.

I also demonstrate how to access the text override feature I discussed a few days ago.

How do I get Civil 3D to import a SID file?

Posted by Dana Breig Probert, EIT on 13th April 2007

So you have SID/MrSID.  You know, an image with a *.sid file format.

And you could SWEAR you used to be able to import them into LDT or Map using the Map>Image>Insert command.  But now, *.sid is not on the list.

Other bloggers may have talked about this, but it comes up SO MANY times on the discussion groups and with client visits, I figured I would take my decaf tea break (the joys of gestation) to tell you how you can get .sid back on your supported image list.

Civil 3D 2008 and File Formats

Posted by Dana Breig Probert, EIT on 13th April 2007

I heard a lot of questions being asked today during the webcast about file format.  My information here may not be written in “Official” terminology, but it will explain what kind of behavior you can expect from opening drawings back and forth between 2007 and 2008.

AutoCAD 2008 Tables- Dynamic with Excel

Posted by Dana Breig Probert, EIT on 13th April 2007

I love AutoCAD tables.  They can have formulas… They can have fields that reference objects… I use them when I do Map Data attribute extraction (see my Stormwater Class from AU for more ideas there).

The only missing piece was a dynamic link back to excel.  Sure I could use an OLE object, but then I couldn’t use the great AutoCAD table features.

I was pretty excited when I heard about the AutoCAD 2008 tables, so when Lynn Allen showed it yesterday at the Possibilities Tour, I paid attention.
