Everybody Wants to Be, Closer to Free

I really consider it a small price to pay, but many people consider the registration requirement to view civil3d.com onerous. I’ve heard your complaints, believe me. From now on (or at least until I have reason to change,) civil3d.com is the completely free (as in beer) site for all things Civil3d related. You will still have to register to leave comments (and I DO encourage those!) but to read, learn, and share, you can be as anonymous as you like.

We’re adding some more authors over the next few weeks, so please be sure and let me know what you think of their posts. Want to write yourself? The pay stinks, there aren’t many bennies (maybe a free copy of Mastering for consistent output,) but I’ll buy you a beer if I’m in town. Drop me an e-mail, wedding@ this domain and we’ll talk.

Thanks for being part of the civil3d.com-munity.

Xref, Dref, and Plotting

With C3D, it is an ongoing evolution on what to xref into your plot sheets and when to reference data into your plot sheets. It has been awhile since anything was posted about this so I thought I would share what seems to work the best.

Moving Forward Means Change

It is a fact – your company is either moving forward or backward. It is also a fact that moving forward means change. Some of us make a living off change – such as the revolutionary changes in Civil software over the past 5 years. (more…)

Autodesk Support in the Sidebar

I’ve added a new widget over there that will give you the last three docs from Autodesk’s Support Feed. Mine is tweaked for Civil, so if you like it, grab it for your own feed reader using the RSS icon to the left of the text. There are new things coming out every day regarding C3D and its related products, stay on top of them by keeping an eye on the feed!

Civil3d.com on YouTube

Today I’ve started my own channel on YouTube. The combination of Jing, YouTube, and a fast connection make it too easy to share quick videos with you. You can check it out at www.youtube.com/user/civil3ddotcom. I will generally also embed the videos here, but jump to YouTube for the full resolution display. I’m recording them at 1280×720 to match the Autodesk vids, so hopefully it will work well for everyone!

Make the jump to view the first video, using 3D Polylines to show ROW lines in Section Views. (more…)
