Following Autodesk’s Support Feeds

One of the many RSS feeds I have is one that was created for me by Autodesk to follow the support of certain products. Recently there have been quite a few posts regarding AutoCAD Civil 3D. Would you like to know what was posted? Would you like your own special feed? Follow us after the jump.

You guys know I love a good soapbox rant, but I love a good debate almost as much. This morning the one-year release cycle came to the front of the Discussion groups as a user was looking for a way to deal with 2010 dwg files in an older version. Sinc’s an advocate for change, but personally, I think he’s too narrow in his vision of the product’s worldwide and industry wide scope. I’ve put in the major points here as quotes, but I hope you’ll join the debate in the comments section. Make the jump to read the thread.

Want a Box? Better Tell Autodesk!

Steve Johnson has some nice commentary over on his “AutoCAD does a Cheshire Cat,” post, but here’s the short form:

All 2011 Subscription Customers will default to download delivery. If you want a physical box of discs, you have to tell Autodesk via your Subscription settings this year.

Hit the Subscription Center today and make sure you’re setup how you want to be. I only have to download a few versions, and I have a fast connection, but I can imagine for some folks, downloading 20GB of data (products, servers, etc.) could be a major hassle. Besides, it’s always a good idea to review your product count this time to year to make sure all your paperwork is in order.

Five Questions with Dawn Danby

And the first question you’ll have is, “Who the heck is Dawn Danby?” cause that’s how the Civil world rolls.

Ms. Danby is the Sustainable Design Program Manager at Autodesk, and one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business according to Fast Company. I had a chance meeting with her at AU last year and really enjoyed getting a few minutes of her thoughts on how Civils can be part of the Sustainable Design movement at Autodesk. If you’ve ever wanted to know how Civil 3D plays into the bigger green movement, or wanted to know more about how Ecotect can push our field in new directions, here’s your chance.

She’s been gracious enough to agree to play our Five Questions game, so fire away in the comments below. Like last time, I’ll review and compile, and pass them along.

Project Points in Vault

If you’re working with the Project Point database in a Vault environment, I’d like to talk to you. Leave me a comment so I can contact you. Thanks!
