Fry Your Brain with SITEOPS®

One of my favorite feelings is when I can watch a demo and feel my jaw drop. Civil 3D the first time, iPhoto with Face matching, Sketchbook on the iPhone. The past few years, I’ve always made a point to visit SITEOPS crew at AU. I saw some of their stuff a few years back, and it was neat, but felt a bit of a one-trick pony. This year? I got my jaw dropped. We had a few minutes to chat, and I am just blown away by how much this stuff has improved in the current releas

So, want to enjoy a good smile and watch how design should be done? They’re hosting a webinar on Wednesday to discuss how their clients use SITEOPS in the site design process for schools, but I think you’ll see quickly how your company could use this. You can sign up here (there’s a 10-minute webinar on that page as well) and check out the full webinar. Be sure to bring a napkin for the drool.

OK, it’s a bit of a slow day on the Subscription post, so Mark and the guys at EE decided to liven it up apparently. Look, if you’re a CadManager, or even just the guy in charge of managing the template, and you don’t have ProPack yet, go get it now.

EE ProPack CadMgr Civil 3D add-on is now FREE!

Seriously, this is the best tool currently available for managing styles, and it will be for some time to come, so go get your free software groove-thing on.

You guys know I love a good soapbox rant, but I love a good debate almost as much. This morning the one-year release cycle came to the front of the Discussion groups as a user was looking for a way to deal with 2010 dwg files in an older version. Sinc’s an advocate for change, but personally, I think he’s too narrow in his vision of the product’s worldwide and industry wide scope. I’ve put in the major points here as quotes, but I hope you’ll join the debate in the comments section. Make the jump to read the thread.

Hydraulic Profile Label for Storm Profiles

Please welcome Tony Carcamo to the civil3d.com team–JW

Hi everyone. I would like to say this is my first official post with Civil3d.com. Tonight, I would like to provide you a few tips and tricks for pipe network design. Lets begin by setting the Manning’s coefficient for each of your pipe sizes in the part network list. I provided a list of the three most commonly used storm pipe types below. You can also find this information in most city standard drainage manual. This will come in handy later on in the post. (more…)

A Quick Fix with Label Expressions

I’m walking through our office and there is a flurry of activity coming from my buddy’s area.  Enough that I’d stay away rather than ask if ay assistance is needed.  Not because I’m lazy, quite the opposite.  We are all balls to the wall when the pressure is on.  If they are not bleeding, just let them be.  They’ll shout if they need anything.

“JOHN!!! Can you come here a sec?” Hmm.  He has grading sheet after sheet full of Structure labels that only indicate a TOP elevation, and not the FL for a valley gutter drain.  Frustrated, he says he needs a solution fast, and has no time for my antics.  Ok, down to business, after the jump.
