There are a lot of projects in the commercial and residential arena that just don’t meet a criteria for passing. We still need to evaluate various other factors, but passing is not an option. Essentially a selective criteria.
Besides, everyone knows us country folks down here just pave windy old game trails so we can go real slow and enjoy the scenery. We aint got no use for passin’ nobody anyhow. Waffle House is open 24/7, what’s the rush.
The problem I ran into is that while trying to meet some other criteria, was that the warnings for passing sight visibility just won’t let me be. Ignoring warnings is always a bad solution. Eventually you ignore something that was a valid concern.

Been a fun, but busy week. Mark and I both were on class duty this week and I managed to teach from both Chicago and Dallas. Add in AU prep, and it’s been a wild one. Here’s some random snippets to go through the weekend on: Read the rest of this entry »

So, you’re digging deep into C3D, and want to know more about how to pull it together in Civil 3D. You’re looking around for resources on hot to put plans together, how to xref, to dref, to vault, to export, to share. Guess what–you’re not alone.
There are lots of ideas about how to pull it all together, and there are a lot of experts on the subject, and most of them read this blog. With that said, it’s my privilege to invite you to the ONLY Civil3D focused UNconference at Autodesk University this year. You can check out the full schedule here, but ignore the time slot for mine. I will be opening up the UNconference at 4PM on Wednesday afternoon in the Casanova 604 room. Hope to see you there.

I have been playing tech support today trying to solve the riddle of a old project that was, then wasn’t and now is back in production. The problem today has been the rotation and coordinate system across a number of files.

This morning while driving to work in a minor mist, I thought about and Twittered about posting a new blog entry here. I have finally found the time. Let us talk about the next 101 topic: Rainfall Intensity. Today’s intensity and the mud-pit that we are turning into a parking lot has me thinking about rainfall intensity, rather the lack of rainfall intensity. As with everything at this time of year, finding time to write about topics like this get far fewer. Mark Scacco touched on the topic with his early July post on the Rational Method.

EE’s programming guru Joshua Modglin will present the latest tool in the EE arsenal, the EE ProPack Hydro. Check out the latest in C3D H&H automation!
The HydroPack includes tools to automating Area, Time of Concentration, and Runoff Coefficient calculations. After extracting the data from the Civil 3D model you can easily bring it into the Storm Sewer extension for hydraulic analysis.
HydroPack also includes an advanced Floodway/Floodplain mapping tools. Round trip your data from Civil 3D to HEC-RAS to Civil 3D and then do even more! Automatically generate floodplain/floodway boundaries; calculate floodplain storage; and more!
There are a bunch of other cool tools, including an improved stage storage calculator that works directly with the Hydrographs extension and more!

In order to avoid conflicts with our normal CivilAccess classes, we moved EECasts to Mondays a few weeks back. They are on Mondays for the forseeable future. Some of you who have subscribed via e-mail to the blog do not get notice until Tuesday when we post things on Monday morning. So, today, you walked into an e-mail saying, “EECast Today!” but it wasn’t, it was yesterday. The e-mail subscription is beyond our control. If you find that the day delay is a problem, I’d suggest subscribing to the feed directly, via Outlook, Google Reader, or any number of other RSS readers.
Thanks for being part of the Civil3d.com community, and we’ll be posting the link for next week’s cast later today!

Ed Note: this was originally posted on Monday, November 10, 2008. The EECast was broadcast on that date.
Don’t forget to register and attend today’s EECast. You can register here: http://www.eng-eff.com/eecasts
Today, James will be covering the best tips and tricks from around the blogosphere. You’ll not only get useful tibits for working with Civil 3D, you’ll also learn where to find additional information on the web and what blogs are the best (after civil3d.com, of course!).
REMINDER: Live broadcasts of EECasts are still open to the public for FREE. Recordings are now reserved for our clients only.
Note: Today was Monday, November 10th. If you’re here via an e-mail link, I suggest changing to a feedreader. JW
