We Don’t Need No Stinking Patches

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 9th June 2008

Well, yeah, ok maybe we do. Especially if we’re running Vault. Somehow, the boys and girls in Manchester managed to get the patch for 2008 to play with ADMS (Vault) 2009 uploaded and it slipped by us. Read on for more info and the link.

All Signs Are Positive

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 24th May 2008

The Magic Eight-ball sometimes delivers on your wishes. It’s not often that we give up free styles, but since this is one of my favorite hacks, and will probably be part of my AU class, here’s one for Sue. The point label style in the attached dwg file will label positive’s but not negatives with a sign. Follow the jump to see how.

Don’t be a Beta Dork

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 14th January 2008

With the essentially open Beta system that Autodesk uses now, it’s almost part of your job to get involved and get a preview. Even if you don’t want to test and comment, it’s homework and good practice to know what’s coming.

But please, for the sake of all that is holy, don’t be a beta dork. Don’t be a burden on the process. We discussed this over a year ago, but it appears it needs revisiting. Go read:

The  Rules of Beta.

No, really. Go read it now. Yes, I’m talking to you. Then, go post if you must.

Take the Edge Off Large Surfaces

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 11th January 2008

take the edge off Civil 3D, created by Sean Twomey from down under has spit out a nifty solution for dealing with large surface data sets. I personally think the whole large dataset issue is over hyped, but I’ll leave that argument for another day.

In the meantime, check out his solution on his blog.

Set Rim Depth Pipe Rule

Posted by Christopher Fugitt on 5th January 2008

A reader contacted me a few weeks ago looking from a Set Rim Depth Pipe Rule for a structure. I never heard if he got it to work, but this is how I got the custom rule to work. Check the code after the jump.

Match Style LSP Routine

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 27th December 2007

The Anonymous author over at civil3dblog.com has posted a routine that will allow you to use Match Props type functionality. Check it out here.

Yes, yet another Civil 3D blog to track. If you haven’t discovered RSS yet, go get IE7 or Outlook 2007 and check out their Feeds functions. I found them pretty good. If you’re on a Mac, Mail supports RSS directly inside, similar to Outlook 2007. Either way, RSS feeds let you subscribe to the growing number of blogs without having to visit every day to see if they’ve posted something.

Direct from the Funk.

Posted by James Wedding, P.E. on 8th August 2007

It’s always good to have friends come visit. This week, many of my friends in the Autodesk Civil team were in town at their Plano office. They’re working on great things for the next year and beyond. In spite of his crazy schedule, Peter Funk was kind enough to play guinea pig for our first recorded interview. Take a listen after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Carlson SurvCE 2.0 Released

Posted by Jason Hickey on 30th May 2007

Today marks the release of Carlson SurvCE 2.0 - so my initial review is a bit out of date now. It’s a bit more visually appealing (they made things less monochromatic than it used to be) and things are easier to get to in general. I’ve played with it for about 5 minutes earlier today with an existing CRD file created from a PNEZD file with codes, and it seems to have a more intuitive layout than the older versions.

If you’d like information on upgrading your SurvCE to the newest version, email me. If you’d like to download a fully functioining demo, a link can be found at the bottom of the website linked above. If you have any trouble, email me - I’ll be glad to help.

So what’s new? Click more to find out….
