Profile Transparency Commands

Do any of the following questions sound familiar?

1. I have a location in PLAN view and I want to know where that is on my PROFILE?

2. I want to come off a PVI at a certain percentage, go to the next PVI and come off it in the opposite direction at a different grade, and where the two cross set a new PVI or adjust an existing PVI?

3. I want to set my PVI at an exact station and elevation but can’t snap to, or offset, any of the profile grid lines in Civil 3D; why is this soo hard?

The Levels of Settings

No we are not talking about the European way to describe elevations (I just couldn’t resist) and we are not talking about the Bentley way to describe layers. We are talking about the idea that with Civil3D, getting the settings to work is based upon a hierarchical level. Let’s illustrate this and see if we can better understand Civil3D settings and their relations with each other.

A Quick Fix with Label Expressions

I’m walking through our office and there is a flurry of activity coming from my buddy’s area.  Enough that I’d stay away rather than ask if ay assistance is needed.  Not because I’m lazy, quite the opposite.  We are all balls to the wall when the pressure is on.  If they are not bleeding, just let them be.  They’ll shout if they need anything.

“JOHN!!! Can you come here a sec?” Hmm.  He has grading sheet after sheet full of Structure labels that only indicate a TOP elevation, and not the FL for a valley gutter drain.  Frustrated, he says he needs a solution fast, and has no time for my antics.  Ok, down to business, after the jump. FeatureLine Priority

As a follow-up to the post Feature Line Styles Control What?:

2010.02.01-Sites ‘Featureline Priority’ is most likely a feature – no pun intended – in Civil 3D that you have overlooked or didn’t even know about.  As you do know, if Featurelines are in the same ‘Site’ they interact with each other and the last one edited wins.

For example:

If you have two Featurelines that cross each other and are in the same ‘Site’, Civil 3D will force them to be at the same elevation where they cross.  This is a good thing since they need to be to build an accurate surface (review image below).
