Point Style Drag Tip

I get annoyed by overlapping symbology.  Whether it is Existing or Proposed, text conflicts are a problem.

On occasion, utilities overlap due to their restricted locations.  Depending on the scale of your drawing, overlaps are unavoidable.  To clear this up you have 3 options:

  1. Turn the point style to <none>, and insert a block at an exaggerated location
  2. Produce a blown up detail of the overlap
  3. change to a point style that allows for exaggerated locations.

Option 1 is ok, but if details are produced with changes to scale, then the blocks are viewed at the wrong scale.

Option 2 is also ok, but often becomes ridiculously redundant and time consuming.

That leaves us with option 3.  I did say a point style, but the reality is there is no point style that can be altered to suit a situation is seconds,  So we will cheat.  Don’t look shocked, this isn’t the first time you have hear me say that. Point Label Styles!!!

Edit Surface from Point Group

Read on, and let me know in the comments if you want to hear more from Mr. Evans! -JW

This discussion will focus on an As-Built Storm retention area that is being cleaned up. This surface is composed of an EG As-Built Point Group created solely for the AB surface creation. It contains all the EG locations the field crews delivered, EXCLUDING specific points that were beyond the scope of the surface model, and points that were a nuisance. This type of surface creation is useful for simple surface updates, that are not terribly intricate, and that allow big sweeping WC selections (Point Group EXCLUSIONS). (more…)
